Mission Statement

To bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.

Our History

ABWA has been uniting businesswomen since 1949, supporting the changing role of women in the workplace over the past 50 years. Our University Chapter was founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1992. One of its most important functions is to education its members and support the young women and men in the local community.

Meetings

The University Chapter holds lunch meetings on the third Thursday of every month from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Ciro's Italian Restaurant, JW Clay Blvd. and Tryon Street (Shopps at University Place) in the University area.  Ours is the only ABWA Charlotte chapter that meets for lunch. Men and women from local area business and schools are welcomed at every meeting with the only cost being their lunch.

Membership

The University Chapter is a diverse group of businesswomen who range in age from young adults to retirees, both single and married. Members come from a wide variety of industries that include banking/finance, communications, consulting, consume products, medical, insurance, non-profit and education. About half of our members are business owners.  Local chapter dues are only $24.00 per year and go to support the chapter. The ABWA ‘year’ begins every August and ends in July but we encourage guests to join any time throughout the year. Information on National ABWA dues can be obtained from their website.

Besides making friends and increasing your networking ‘circle’, there are many benefits to being a member of the ABWA organization. Members can receive discounts on many services and products that pertain to both their business and personal life and well-being.  For more information on ABWA national benefits, please visit www.abwa.org

Networking

Members and guests are able to network with other businesswomen at the monthly lunch meetings as well as at Chapter events, meeting with other local chapters and ABWA regional and national events. During the monthly meetings, we encourage new members and guests to distribute business or company literature as appropriate.

Member Education

Throughout the year, members and guests listen to invited speakers discuss topics that help them grow both professionally and personally. Topics range from tips for succeeding in business to health issues. Previews and recaps on speakers are available through the monthly chapter minutes. If you are interested in being a speaking or recommending one, please contact us.

Leadership/Committees

Members have the opportunity to guide the Chapter’s direction by joining committees or holding leadership positions. Members must be in current status with ABWA national in order to hold an officer position.
